BC Inter-university Research Data Centre

The British Columbia Inter-university Research Data Centre (BCIRDC) is a research facility of Simon Fraser University , The University of British Columbia, and The University of Victoria. The BCIRDC provides access for approved projects to selected Statistics Canada confidential microdata household, population and workplace files, including:

•  Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS)

•  Ethnic Diversity Survey (EDS)

•  General Social Survey (GSS selected cycles)

•  Longitudinal Survey of Immigrants to Canada (LSIC)

•  National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth (NLSCY)

BC Ministry of Education

The BC Ministry of Education web site offers information about K-12 schooling in BC, including student registration, administrative and operational data, FSA results, and budget details. Also of interest are the BC Ministry of Education Service Plan and Historical Archive information

BC Stats

BC Stats is the central statistical agency of the Province of British Columbia . They offer an array of education data.

BC Teachers' Federation

The British Columbia Teachers' Federation (BCTF) is the union of professionals representing 43,000 BC public school teachers. Reports and surveys are posted on the BCTF website relating to various aspects of BC public education. See Index, Publications.

BC University Database page (TUDBASE) by TUPC)

Through The University Presidents' Council of BC, TUDBASE data are collected from each of the public universities in British Columbia on a yearly schedule which started in 1984/85. Data sources are institutional Student Information System, Financial Management Information System, and Human Resources systems. Also accessed are BC Statistics, Statistics Canada, and CAUBO data. Data are submitted to TUPC and posted on the TUPC website in PDF, Excel and HTMS formats.

Ministry of Children and Family Development - Publications

The Ministry provides programs and services to ensure that healthy children and responsible families are living in safe, caring and inclusive communities. The Ministry puts out a number of publications containing statistics pertaining to children and families in BC.

Human Early Learning Program

To create, promote, and apply new knowledge through leading interdisciplinary research to help children thrive.

The Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) is a pioneering, interdisciplinary research partnership that is directing a world-leading contribution to new understandings and approaches to early child development.

Directed by Dr. Clyde Hertzman, HELP is a network of faculty, researchers and graduate students from British Columbia 's four major universities. HELP facilitates the creation of new knowledge, and helps apply this knowledge in the community by working directly with government and communities.

HELP works in partnership with the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), in particular, the BC Minister of State for Early Childhood Development. HELP is partially funded by MCFD and maintains a close liaison with other provincial government ministries.

UBC Data Library

UBC Library is the second largest research library in Canada and includes 21 branches and divisions at UBC and at other locations: three branches at teaching hospitals ( St. Paul 's, Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre and Children's and Women's Health Centre of BC) and one at UBC's Robson Square campus in downtown Vancouver . Plans are underway to establish a library at the Great Northern Way Campus on the Finning Lands, in partnership with the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Simon Fraser University and the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

The Library's collections are large and diverse, attracting researchers from around the world and contributing significantly to establishing UBC as a leading academic institution. Our collection includes four million books and journals, 4.9 million microforms, more than 1.5 million maps, videos and other multimedia materials and over 33, 500 subscriptions. UBC Library also has the largest biomedical collection in Western Canada and the largest collection of Asian Language materials in the country. It is a depository library as well for publications of the governments of BC, Canada , Japan , and the United Nations.

The Library's web-based services and collection of electronic information resources are also growing tremendously with remote access to Library services now doubling every year. Many library functions can be handled online and thousands of electronic indexes, databases and full text e-journals are available.

UBC Numeric Data services

Numeric Data Services is a part of the Humanities and Social Sciences Division, Koerner Library. We house machine-readable data files for the UBC campus applicable to a broad range of subject areas, including, but not limited to: economics, commerce, political science, geography, and community and regional planning.

University Presidents' Council of BC

TUPC works with and on behalf of its members to improve the quality, accessibility and coordination of university education in British Columbia . The council provides a single voice on behalf of the universities on public policy issues including funding, research, degree approval, accountability, admissions and transfer. TUPC is funded by the member universities and is completely independent of the provincial government.

The 5 university presidents are the members of the Council and the Chair of TUPC is selected from these members. Dr. Michael Stevenson, President of Simon Fraser University, is the current Chair for TUPC and meetings are held approximately five times during the year. TUPC also has four Vice-Presidents Committees (Academic, Research, Administration and Externals) that meet approximately five times a year and standing committees on Facilities, Student Services, Institutional Analysis, Human Resources, Legislation and Graduate Outcomes.
