This database provides information about the extent of grade retention (the practice of holding a student back a grade) over two school years, for specific BC schools districts. Results are reported for students in four subgroups (where applicable): Aboriginal girls, Aboriginal boys, non-Aboriginal girls, and non-Aboriginal boys.

Select a school district from the drop-down menu to view a graphical report showing the proportion of students in that district who (a) were enrolled in the district in both 2002/2003 and 2003/2004; and (b) repeated the same grade level in 2003/2004 in which they were enrolled in 2002/2003. Results are broken down by grade and by four subgroups (where applicable): Aboriginal girls, Aboriginal boys, non-Aboriginal girls, and non-Aboriginal boys.
