As part of the effort to proactively manage its information,
the District has built a data warehouse to store information
on student achievement and outcomes from multiple sources.
These sources include assessment and outcomes data collected
by schools in North Vancouver School District, such as
Test of Phonological Awareness, District Math Assessment,
Kindergarten Numeracy Test, as well as the BC Ministry
of Education's Foundation Skills Assessment and Exams
and Transcript (Grade 12) information. The data warehouse
represents a unique and rich source of information that
helps teachers and administrators to better serve every
student in the school. Data are imported into the data
warehouse on an annual basis, allowing for the continual
and longitudinal tracking of individual student achievement.
The main goal of the data warehouse is to contribute
to the learning improvement and success of each student
by identifying specific learning strengths and weaknesses
and helping to develop strategies to address them. This
is achieved by identifying individual students who need
additional help and by informing teachers about student
specific weakness across the elementary and secondary
instruction. Information about individual students from
elementary schools can be readily shared with secondary
schools through the data warehouse. Data about different
student cohorts can be maintained and reported as they
move through the system.
