The purpose of this website is to support the Network
goal of facilitating the use of data for the purposes
of secondary analysis by providing information on background
issues surrounding secondary analysis, information
on current policies and practices, providing links to
relevant sites, and offering a forum for the discussion
of strategies and policies in support of data sharing
within and beyond the Network. The site is a work in
progress that will evolve with continued input from
CLLRNET and other researchers.
The central goal behind the Canadian Language and Literacy
Research Network (CLLRNet) is to improve the language
and literacy skills of Canadian children. As a national
network, the researchers hope to accomplish more than
as individual investigators. Their broad objective is
to understand the development of good language and literacy
skills and apply this knowledge to facilitate the language,
communication and literacy programs and practices of
Canada's children. Creating a database where individual
investigators can access primary research data to facilitate
secondary analysis is one step towards CLLRNet researchers
working together as a focused community to accomplish
their network goals.
The intention to develop a CLLRNet-wide core facility/database
project was outlined in their initial Strategic Research
Plan. The essential notions are that a) one way to add
significant value through cooperation among researchers
in the network would be to foster the systematic sharing
and reuse of data; b) such an initiative would require
data to be cataloged and archived in a systematic manner.
