The SAIP 2001 Mathematics assessment took place in April 2001
and included two components for students: the Content component
and the Problem Solving component. The test items are not released,
but students' overall performance on each component is provided,
as well as students' performance in specific area like numbers,
algebra, geometry and statistics. In addition, students answered
a questionnaire that contains useful data information that might
be connected to their test results. Mathematics teachers and school
principals from all jurisdictions also filled out separate questionnaires.
For five provinces (Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and
Nova Scotia), students' results are given by language groups (Anglophone
and Francophone).
We have organized the SAIP 2001 Mathematics dataset into four
themes: Common Variables, Student,
Teacher and Institutional.
However, the information in each of the categories is interrelated.
For instance, a cohort of students from a BC school is described
by variables in the Student theme, as well as by school (Institutional
theme) and teachers' characteristics (Teacher theme).
The Methodology section provides a brief
description of the design and use of the SAIP Data Catalogue.
