University
Student Information System - Enrolment and Graduations
This survey collects annual information from degree-granting universities
and colleges in Canada on individual student characteristics and
their study programs including gender, age, citizenship, geographic
source of student, field of study, level, type of attendance (full-time/part-time
and year of graduation).
Federal and provincial government departments that have interest
in higher education use the data. Other national and international
organizations and individual researchers also make extensive use
of the data.
The information is used for studies of the education system, policy
initiatives, international comparisons, and for trend analysis
of the labour force supply and the participation of special groups
such as foreign students, language groups and women.
In the Thematic
Survey Index, you will find a list of past and current
surveys undertaken by Statistics Canada.
The University
Student Information System (USIS) Database is a national
database containing pertinent, up-to-date information on student
participation in Canadian degree granting institutions. It is
aimed at providing information to researchers, managers and policy
makers interested in the Canadian university education system.
Data is obtained from the administrative records of Canadian degree
granting institutions, generally in an individual record format.

education. It summarizes information on institutions, enrolment,
graduates, teachers and finance for all levels of education and
provides an analysis of the data. Ten-year time series are shown

at the provincial level. The publication also provides demographic
data from the census of Canada and educational attainment, labour
force participation rates and unemployment rates of the adult
population from the Labour Force Survey.
