Statistics Canada

Statistics Canada provides a wealth of data and information on all levels of education in Canada. Below are selected links that focus primarily on postsecondary education.

E-Stat is a searchable data base tapping into an enormous warehouse of Canadian statistics.

StatCan makes Summary Tables of data on enrolments, graduates, attendance, attainment, finance, and employment for all education levels available.

University Student Information System - Enrolment and Graduations
This survey collects annual information from degree-granting universities and colleges in Canada on individual student characteristics and their study programs including gender, age, citizenship, geographic source of student, field of study, level, type of attendance (full-time/part-time and year of graduation).
Federal and provincial government departments that have interest in higher education use the data. Other national and international organizations and individual researchers also make extensive use of the data.
The information is used for studies of the education system, policy initiatives, international comparisons, and for trend analysis of the labour force supply and the participation of special groups such as foreign students, language groups and women.

In the Thematic Survey Index, you will find a list of past and current surveys undertaken by Statistics Canada.

The University Student Information System (USIS) Database is a national database containing pertinent, up-to-date information on student participation in Canadian degree granting institutions. It is aimed at providing information to researchers, managers and policy makers interested in the Canadian university education system. Data is obtained from the administrative records of Canadian degree granting institutions, generally in an individual record format.

Education in Canada
This publication is an annual review of statistics on Canadian education. It summarizes information on institutions, enrolment, graduates, teachers and finance for all levels of education and provides an analysis of the data. Ten-year time series are shown for most variables at the Canada level and five-year time series at the provincial level. The publication also provides demographic data from the census of Canada and educational attainment, labour force participation rates and unemployment rates of the adult population from the Labour Force Survey.

Education Quarterly Review
This publication provides statistical data and analysis from surveys through a combination of articles and summary statistics. Descriptions of data release and new survey developments are included, as are data and statistical analyses from elementary-secondary, post-secondary, and adult education and training levels. Characteristics examined include enrolment, staff and finance for schools, universities and colleges. Variables include age, gender, citizenship, degrees and diplomas, salary and source of education funding.
